"When you left me all alone at the record hop..."

This Wednesday Hit Parade has a dual purpose, not only is this weeks song by my favourite singers but it is also the title of a most wonderful TV drama that I urge you all to watch.

When I was younger there was two TV shows my Mum told me that I should try to watch once I had grown up. The first show was The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (which I've now seen countless times and love) and the second was Lipstick On Your Collar.

Lipstick On Your Collar is set in the Military Intelligence Office in Whitehall during the Suez Crisis. It stars Ewan McGregor (you know who he is) as Private Mick Hopper who spends most of his time daydreaming about himself and his colleagues breaking into song and dance routines  to songs of the era. He is joined by Private Francis Francis (Giles Thomas a.k.a Doug from Skins) who has come from Wales to live in a flat with his Aunt and Uncle whilst doing his military service that just happens to be below another work colleague, the bullying Corporal Pete Berry (Douglas Henshall a.k.a Professor Nick Cutter from Primeval) and his wife Sylvia.

Sylvia is an usherette at the local Odeon and quickly becomes an object of desire for the shy and bumbling Francis. She is also the object of desire of a middle aged and once famous pipe organist by the name of Harold Atterbow (Roy Hudd).

I don't want to give too much away as I want you all to watch it. It has everything that you could want from a drama and is packed with the most marvellous musical numbers that you certainly would never see in an episode of Glee!

So, I shall leave you all with the theme song from the show and I whole heartedly encourage you all to watch it on 4od . (screencaps from channel4.com  )
